Firstly, the 640m long Woodhead Tunnel was built between 1888 and 1891 to divert the Disa stream to the western slopes of Table Mountain . The Woodhead Dam was then built on the Disa stream in 1897. The Woodhead Dam was the first stonemasonry dam built to store water for Cape Town.
