| Forestry plantations were established in 1911 and approximately one-third of the catchment is under State forest (Mr van Rijn, Government Forester, Jonkersberg Plantation, pers. comm.). In addition to the Jonkershoek Plantation, which includes 4 000 ha of indigenous vegetation and 4900 ha of pine (Pinus pinaster and P. radiata), there are several small private plantations besides those managed by the municipalities of Mossel Bay and Great Brak River.
