ROOIELS RIVER ESTUARY: General information and location


 

General

Rooiels, Rooi Els or Rooi-els.

The name Els refers to the European alder tree which is similar in appearance to the indigenous Cunonia capensis, commonly known as the Rooiels.  A number of these trees are found in the forest patches occurring in the catchment of the Rooiels river. (Ref 1)

 

Location (co-ordinates)
The Rooiels river mouth is situated at 34° 18'S and 18° 49' E, and is approximately 70 km from Cape Town. (Ref 1)
