BITTER RIVER ESTUARY: Physical Features |

Topography |
| The main axis of the system is orientated in an east/west direction. The valley turns sharply south at the estuary and finally opens north-westwards across the beach. A spit of dunes approximately 10m high lies parallel to the estuary between it and the beach on the north bank. | |

Bathymetry |
| At the time of the survey there was no water in the estuary, which consisted of a dry river channel. (Ref 1) | |

Obstructions |

In the catchment:
The access road to the Bitter mouth from the main road between Garies and Kamieskroon, crosses the riverbed in several places. |

Near the mouth:
A gravel track and fence cross the riverbed approximately 500m and 400m respectively from the point where the mouth opens onto the beach. (Ref 1) |
