HOLGAT RIVER ESTUARY: Physical Features |
Topography |
| The Holgat cannot be classified as a true estuary but sea water washes in during exceptionally high spring tides, as indicated by dried kelp dispersed over the riverbed near the mouth. (Ref 1) | |
Bathymetry |
| The estuary is filled with sand to above sea level. The water depth in the trench was 0,5 to 1m at the time of the ECRU survey. (Ref 1) | |
Obstructions |
| The only obstruction in the estuary is the "L" shaped water trench used for the maintenance of roads and processing of diamond gravel. The two arms of the trench were 100m and 70m long respectively and the width was about 10m. Water depth varied from 0,5 to 1 m at the time of the ECRU survey. (Ref 1) | |
