TOPOGRAPHY
The Soutpansberg range, with an altitude of over 1 700 m, intrudes into the Sand River catchment extending about 50 km west of Makhado and forms the upper reaches of the Nzhelele and Nwanedi River catchments. Ref 1.
    GEOLOGY
The area is underlain by a wide variety of different lithologies. In the north, the Limpopo Mobile Belt occurs as well as the Soutpansberg Group rocks.  Ref 1
    SOILS
The soils in the area can be summarised as deep sandy soil in the north and moderate to deep sandy loam in the central regions. In the Soutpansberg area, the soil type is clayey loam. The deep soils of the Limpopo WMA are generally well-suited to agriculture, but the lack of surface runoff has been the limiting factor in agricultural development. Ref 1.
