HYDROLOGY
The mean annual rainfall across the catchment varies from 600 mm to > 1200 mm, with an average of 880mm/a.
"90% of the mean annual precipitation falls during the summer months from October to March (Weddepohl et al 1991). Subsequently, the highest flows are recorded during these rainfall months, while the lowest levels are recorded in late spring before the onset of the summer rains (Weddepohl et al 1991). Flow types of the in-stream channel of the study area include; rippled surface, undular standing waves and broken standing waves, which are common. The general physical biotopes of the river can then be classified as; glides, chutes, runs, riffles, rapids and cascades (Roux 1999)."  (http://etd.rau.ac.za/theses/available/etd-06282005-104631/)
