Bloemhof dam 1240.2 "Bloemhof Dam is situated on the Vaal River, downstream of Vaal dam approximately 2km upstream of the town of Bloemhof. The dam, originally known as Oppermansdrif Dam was constructed during the late sixties and was commissioned in 1970. It is a composite dam comprising earthfill flanks on each side of a 305m long central concrete spillway. Due to the flat topography of the area, the dam wall is very long with a total crest length of 4 270m and a maximum wall height of only 35.2m above deepest foundation level"

Sterkfontein Dam 2617 "Sterkfontein Dam was commissioned in 1977 and comprised 69m high earthfill embankment 2 290m long with no spillway. It was subsequently raised in 1980 to its current height of 93m with a crest length of 3 060m"
 

Vaal Barrage Dam 63  
  Vaal Dam 2188 "The catchment area of the dam is approximately 38 500 km2 most of which is located in the Free State Province with the remainder in the North West, Gauteng and Mpumalanga provinces. The catchment area has an average annual precipitation (MAP) of approximately 700mm with a corresponding annual potential evaporation (Symons Pan) in the order of 1 500mm."
  Vaalhartz Weir 45 'The main construction of the weir was completed in 1938 and was part of the government initiatives to alleviate unemployment following the depression of the 1930's.   In 1967, the weir was raised by 1.2m to its current height of 11m. It is a concrete barrage-type structure, 765m wide with numerous sluices. The sluices are of two types; some for the normal river releases and some for flood management purposes. The dam is designed to handle floods of up to 14200 m3/s."
