| The region has a generally mild climate although temperatures may be extremely high during northerly "berg" winds. The region receives 50 percent of the possible sunshine (Schulze, 1965). | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| A high incident of cloud, frequent light drizzle, coastal fogs and changeable weather are characteristic of the region. (Ref 1) | |||||||||||||||||||||||

| The mountains in the vicinity of George receive about 1 100mm per annum whereas the plains south of Riversdale in the west of the region receive only 400 mm. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
