An
arid climate with strong southerly winds currently prevails along this
Southern African West Coast region. The rainfall is not sufficient to
maintain continuous discharge of the smaller rivers, which sculpted
their catchments areas during periods of wetter climate.
The
mean annual rainfall in the upper reaches of the Spoeg River Catchment,
ranges between 100 to 200mm.
In the lower reaches, it ranges between 50 and 100mm.
Heavy fog is prevalent and some moisture is derived from this occurrence. (Ref 1) |
