HYDROLOGY
The Diep River and its tributaries lie within the winter rainfall region.  The mean annual precipitation over the norther half of the catchment area is 515mm and over the southern half 527mm.  Of this about 63% falls in the four-month perion May-August.  The river tends to dry up in summer.
The mean annual runoff is 29,80 x 106 m

Measure monthly flow ranges between zero and 53,3 x 106 m3. Simulated run-off for the catchment area ranges between zero and 164 x 106 m3.  The apparent discrepancy between measured and simulated run-off may be due to extraction of water upstream for irrigation purposes.  (Ref 2)
