HYDROLOGY
The long-term average run-off into the river is given as 50 million m3.   The water of the Steenbras River is acid brown water, which is extremely soft, with low mineral content.  It has a typical tea-colour, with no mud (Ref. 1).  The Steenbras mouth cannot be described as an estuary, since it is a small “fjord-like” valley incised into a rocky coastal strip, approximately 360m long, 50m wide and 10 to 20m deep.
