LOURENS RIVER: Overview

The Lourens River runs through Somerset West in the Western Cape and empties into the sea on the western border of the Strand beach in False Bay .  (Ref 1)

The length of the river is approximately 20 km. (Ref 2)

The catchment area is approximately 128 km2 (DWAF, 2003).   The catchment of the Lourens River includes the southeast slopes of the Helderberg and the westerns lopes of the Hottentots Holland Mountains (Ref 2)
The river originates in Waterkloof in the Hottentots Holland Mountains .  It has no major tributaries, but is supplemented by streams arising in Landdroskloof and Sneeukopkloof.  (Ref 2)
