The Central Karoo municipality on Wednesday said despite heavy rainfall this past weekend, Beaufort West is still in the grips of a drought. Thirty millimetres of rainfall was recorded in parts of the Western Cape town. Its main catchment area the Gamka Dam has seen levels rise significantly. Municipality spokesperson Hein Rust said they still relied on borehole water.“Unfortunately it was not enough to fill up the dam. You might think him brave or insane, but yes, Beaufort West’s director of engineering services Louw Smit is having the first glass of recycled sewage water. This is what Louw had to say:
